Turner Walston Editor
Turner Walston is the managing editor of Tar Heel Monthly. A native of Goldsboro, Turner earned a degree in communications from Carolina in 2003. After graduation, Turner held various jobs writing music, depositing checks, coordinating arts and crafts at summer camp and reporting on military and agriculture in his hometown before earning a master’s degree in exercise and sport science from East Carolina. He returned to Chapel Hill in 2007 and came on board full-time with THM in 2009.
He loves writing about his favorite team for Tar Heel Monthly, Tar Heels Today, and TarHeelBlue.com, and is not worried about a little bias shining through. His favorite Carolina memories include the 1996 win over Duke courtesy of a Dante Calabria tip-in, Casey Barth’s game-winner in the Music City Bowl in 2010, and Kent Emanuel’s complete game shutout against Texas in the 2011 College World Series.
Recently, Turner has been seen announcing Carolina baseball games on ESPN3. Turner also enjoys performing stand-up comedy locally.
