10 Must-See Tar Heel NBA games

Harrison Barnes drives

Carolina's 2012-13 basketball schedule will be released by the ACC in August. Until then, with the NBA schedule out tonight, here are ten pro games Tar Heel fans will want to see next season.

Oct. 31, Warriors at Suns. It's the season opener and it matches Harrison Barnes against Kendall Marshall. Turn out your front porch light, ignore the trick-or-treaters, and watch two of the most recent Tar Heel alums battle it out.

Nov. 3, Cavs at Bucks. Three days after the Barnes-Marshall matchup, John Henson hosts Tyler Zeller in Milwaukee. They were a terrific frontcourt pair together for three years--what happens when they go against each other?

Nov. 24, Lakers at Mavericks. There was a time we took Antawn Jamison and Vince Carter being a duo for granted. But as their careers get longer, every time they get together could be their last. Could this be one of the last times they share the hardwood? It might. Brandan Wright joins Carter with the Mavericks.

Dec. 9, Nuggets at Knicks. A matchup of Carolina's most recent two NCAA championship point guards, Ty Lawson and Raymond Felton. Plus it's at Madison Square Garden two weeks before Christmas. Anyone up for a field trip?

Jan. 25, Warriors at Bulls. This is the only non-double Tar Heel game on the list, but you know Harrison Barnes is eager for his first trip to Chicago. His mother named him for Michael Jordan, and expect him to make a stop at the statue outside the United Center.

Jan. 26, Pacers at Jazz. One of the most little-known mutual admiration societies among Carolina hoops alums is the way Tyler Hansbrough looks up to Marvin Williams. This game is part of a mini-UNC reunion for Hansbrough, who in the span of four games will see Wayne Ellington (Memphis), Williams (Utah) and Lawson (Denver).

Feb. 8, Lakers at Bobcats. Expect Jamison to get a warm welcome from his hometown fans--even though he spurned the Bobcats to sign with Los Angeles--when he's welcomed by Brendan Haywood and Charlotte. Bonus: this is also likely to be Carolina-Duke week, so it never hurts to remember some of Jamison's epic performances against the Blue Devils.

March 18, Pacers at Cavs. This seems like a long time ago in the wake of all Tyler Zeller's honors, but there was a time he was known mostly as the "other" Tyler at Carolina. This time, Zeller plays host to the original Tyler--Tyler Hansbrough.

April 1, Spurs at Grizzlies. Let's be honest--on the first Monday in April, all of us are hoping we're not paying any attention whatsoever to the NBA, because we're too wrapped up in NCAA action. But just in case, this should be a fun battle featuring Danny Green and Wayne Ellington.

April 17, Suns at Nuggets. Ty Lawson arguably moves the ball faster with the dribble faster than anyone in Carolina history. Marshall arguably moves it with the pass faster than anyone in Carolina history. What happens when they get together? We'll find out in the regular season finale.

Which of these games are you most looking forward to--or which ones did we miss? Will Henson block Zeller or Lawson outrace Felton? Let us know in the comments.

The Garden also hosts Knicks-Suns (Felton vs. Marshall) the week before, on Dec. 2. Looking like a great year to be a Tar Heel in New York. I have never been very impressed with college games at MSG, but the one Knicks game I saw there was quite a production.
