APRIL 16, 2012 -- Every year all 28 of Carolina's athletic programs come together for one night to celebrate each other and their accomplishments for the academic and competitive year. It is a night to remember, a night to congratulate, but most importantly it is a night to look toward the future. And the 2011-12 All-Sports Banquet was certainly a step into a new era of UNC athletics -- perhaps a new golden age, so to speak, that goes beyond what the student-athletes take away from their time in Chapel Hill both on the field and in the classroom.

Though many of the teams still have matches to compete in and potential hardware to bring home, the night was one of smiles and laughs for all in attendance. Atlantic Coast Conference award recipients were recognized, as were Athletic Director Scholar Athletes, and the prestigious McCaskill winners were announced, an award that goes to one male and one female senior student-athlete who have shown excellence in the classroom, on the field and in community service throughout their time at Carolina.

But perhaps the most enjoyable and meriting of smiles and laughter was the additional video besides the usual highlight reel. Jason Andrews of UNC New Media worked for weeks to bring to life an idea hatched by Cricket Lane and several key members of the Student Advisory Committee, the student-athletes' arm of the athletic department for their representation. A lip-sync music video featuring all Tar Heel teams dancing to the famed song "Jump Around." Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham said this will be the new direction of all future All-Sports Banquets and that the night should be a chance to highlight all the talents of Carolina's student-athletes that just academics and athleticism.
