The ACC Football Kickoff begins Sunday and continues through Monday. It's the annual gathering of football players, coaches, media and conference administrators two weeks before training camp begins. Check TarHeelMonthly.com and follow @TarHeelMonthly on Twitter for updates during the events. Larry Fedora, Kevin Reddick and Bryn Renner will represent Carolina at the event.

A couple of Tar Heels were named to preseason award watch lists this week: Gio Bernard (Doak Walker) and Renner (Davey O'Brien). Renner received the news while he was at the Manning Passing Academy last weekend, working with several other college quarterbacks as counselors."We all kind of found out at the same time. It's an extreme honor for me, and a humbling honor," he said.

NCAA Football 13, the latest college football game from EA Sports, was released this week. I asked Bryn if the game had the Tar Heels' new playbook. "I do not play NCAA. I played it my freshman year, and I lost to Kevin Reddick. He beat me on a field goal, and I’ve retired since, because I think the game is rigged. I get too frustrated with it, so I quit. I just play Tiger Woods and FIFA."

Former Tar Heels Tyler Zeller, Kendall Marshall, Harrison Barnes and John Henson are impressing in summer league play.

It's the second time around for Raymond Felton in New York.

Antawn Jamison signed a one-year deal with the Lakers this week. The LA Times remembered a 2000 showdown between then-Warrior Jamison and Kobe Bryant.

Former Tar Heel All-America Kellie Thompson Shiley passed away in Maryland this week. Our prayers are with her family.

The Dark Knight Rises, the most anticipated theatrical release of the year, has been marred by the horrific events in Aurora, Colorado overnight.
