It's Memorial Day Weekend, the unofficial start of summer. Fire up the grill and enjoy the weather.

Carolina Athletics

BASEBALL - The Diamond Heels took one on the chin yesterday, falling 5-3 to Miami. Head Coach Mike Fox argued the final strike call and was ejected postgame, resulting in a one-game suspension. Carolina takes on N.C. State Saturday night at 7 p.m. That game will be meaningless for one team. With each team in Carolina's pool 1-1 entering today, you'll want to keep an eye on tonight's Miami-Wake Forest game to see how things will shake out. As it stands now, State beat Miami who beat Carolina who beat Wake Forest who beat State.

If Wake Forest wins, State is eliminated, but a Carolina win over N.C. State will put the Tar Heels in Sunday's championship game. If State wins, Wake Forest would advance to the championship.

If Miami wins, Carolina is out of the championship, and an N.C. State win would put the Wolfpack in the championship. A Carolina win would send the Hurricanes to the championship.

WOMEN'S GOLF - Carolina is in seventh entering Saturday's final round of the NCAA Championship. A tough third round has the Tar Heels eight strokes behind leader Alabama.  Katherine Perry is in 10th place.

TRACK & FIELD - At the NCAA East Regionals, 24 Tar Heels and one relay are competing to qualify for the outdoor championships. Competition continues Friday at the University of North Florida.

Tar Heels in the Pros

NBA - Danny Green of the red-hot Spurs is the last Tar Heel standing in the NBA Playoffs. San Antonio takes on Oklahoma City in the Western Conference Finals. Play begins Sunday at 8:30 ET on TNT.

MLB - Dustin Ackley, Kyle Seager and the Seattle Mariners host Chris Ianetta and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this weekend. Friday is Dustin Ackley Bobblehead night.

Alex White got his first win of the year on Wednesday as the Rockies beat Miami.

NFL - You may know that Hakeem Nicks broke his foot Thursday. The New York Times looks at his availability for the start of the season.

Entertainment Picks

Are you going to see 'Men in Black 3?' The LA Times likes it alright.

I saw a trailer for 'The Chernobyl Diaries' before 'The Cabin in the Woods.' Pass.

DL Hughley is at Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh this weekend.

Riverdance is at the Progress Energy Center FOR THE LAST TIME EVER! Sounds like a promise.

Saturday in Durham is the annual Doughman ear/run/bike/swim quadrathlon.
