Weekend Watch: November 30 - December 2

Happy weekend everyone! Have you caught the nasty cold and sore throat thing that's going around? I'm currently holed up at home with a dog in my lap. This is normal, however, this time I have a cold. Anyway, there's lots of exciting things going on around Carolina athletics this weekend, so have a look at the Weekend Watch.

Fall Sports Championships

Men's soccer hosts Indiana with a trip to the College Cup on the line. That game is tonight at 6. If you can't be at Fetzer Field, you can watch live on GoHeels.com. Last year, the Tar Heels defeated Indiana in the round of 16. If you come to the game tonight (and you should), be mindful that the NCHSAA 4-A football championship game (New Bern vs. Porter Ridge) is being held at Kenan Stadium at 7:30, so parking may be at a premium. Senior goalkeeper Scott Goodwin, who has simply been a stud in goal for the Tar Heels throughout his career, was selected as the Capital One Academic All-America of the Year this week.

After you hurry home from the soccer match, you can tune in to volleyball's NCAA Tournament second-round match with Iowa State. That match begins at 8:30 Eastern.

Then, flip on ESPNU (or ESPN3) at 11 for women's soccer's College Cup match with Stanford. The Tar Heels won a thriller in overtime at BYU to reach the College Cup. The winner of the Tar Heels and Cardinal gets the Florida State/Penn State winner in the national championship Sunday at 4. Not to be outdone by Goodwin, Caitlin Ball won the NCAA Elite 89 award for having the highest GPA of any College Cup player.

Winter Sports

Swimming is in Columbus for the Ohio State Invitational all weekend.

Men's basketball tries to get back on track with UAB at 6 on Saturday. It's a homecoming for Jerod Haase and Bobby Frasor. That game is telecast on ESPNU. If you get to the Smith Center early, you can catch JV men's basketball as they take on Greensboro Day at 3.

Fencing has a pair of meets up north. Saturay they're in Poughkeepsie for the Vassar Dual Meets, and Sunday they're in Waltham, Mass. for the Brandeis Dual Meets.

Women's basketball is off to a hot start after a terrific comeback win over Ohio State. They'll travel to Knoxville to take on Tennessee Sunday at 1. You can see that game on Fox Sports South or Fox Sports Carolinas.

Diversions

If you follow Gunter Brewer on Twitter, you know that he's always looking for active duty military personnel. Here's why.

Did you hear about Michael Jordan being asked to leave a golf course for wearing cargo shorts? Mike, come on! Cargo shorts?

A kid in Australia dressed like Mario for his school's cart derby. He won the race . . . but then celebrated a little too hard.
