Weekend Watch: October 19-21
Well here we are again! It's always such a pleasure.
Football heads to Duke and the Battle for the Victory Bell. That game is Saturday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU, but tickets are still available. I know it's fall break, but if you're within a decent driving distance, you ought to try to be there. Both teams 5-2 and 2-1 in conference play. With a win, Carolina would vault toward the top of the ACC standings and at the very least be a half-game behind Miami (Carolina holds the tiebreaker there) if the Hurricanes upset Florida State. Today on GoHeels.com, I wrote about the Victory Bell and its significance in the Carolina-Duke rivalry.
As you probably heard this week, Minnesota bought ought of the scheduled home and home with Carolina football.
Men's soccer is ranked second nationally and on the road at no. 1 Maryland tonight. That game is at 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPNU. Women's soccer is coming off a shutout of Duke on Thursday and turns around to host Wake Forest at 1 on Sunday. That game is on ESPN3. Volleyball has a two-game homestand this weekend, hosting Maryland at 7 Friday and Boston College at 5 on Saturday. Tennis plays in the ITA Carolinas Regional all weekend, the men in Cary and the women in Winston-Salem. Swimming is in Dallas, Texas for the Dallas Classic.
Carolina Baseball released the 2013 schedule this week. It features some great home series, including conference tilts with the likes of Clemson, Miami and Virginia.
Jay Caspian Kang has a great Grantland piece on Antawn Jamison this week.
It looks like we won't be seeing NHL hockey anytime soon.
Look at this cute baby cheetah.
OK, next Saturday's game against N.C. State is at 12:30 p.m. As Adam has written, Carolina has played a lot of noon-hour games lately. Silver lining? You can go to the game and still make the Old 97's show at Cat's Cradle that evening. Here's one of my favorite tracks.
