Weekend Watch: October 26-28
It's a busy weekend in Tar Heel sports, with fall sports heading down the stretch and winter teams ramping up.
Football hosts N.C. State Saturday at 12:30 on ACC Network. Thursday, I checked in with Tommy Davis on his tackle of T.A. McLendon in the 2004 game. Adam has his top three wins and bottom three losses in Carolina/State games. Lauren detailed the trouble Carolina's had moving the ball on the ground against the Wolfpack in recent years. If you're going to the game, be sure to check the weather as you head out the door.
Swimming hosts Virginia Tech Friday at 3:45 and the NCAC Mile Swim on Sunday. Field Hockey is at Old Dominion Friday at 5 and back home against Radford Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Men's soccer (this week's Project 28 subject) is at N.C. State tonight at 7 on ESPN3. Also at 7, volleyball plays at Duke. They travel to Winston-Salem for a match Sunday at 1 at Wake Forest (RSN). Men's basketball plays their only exhibition game tonight against Shaw. That game is available on GoHeels TV. Both fencing teams are in Philadelphia for the Temple Intercollegiate Open. Cross country is in Blacksburg for the ACC Championships. Fresh off a comeback win over N.C. State, women's soccer hosts Virginia Sunday at 1 in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. Women's basketball hits the court to take on Carson-Newman Sunday at 2 in exhibition play.
The Two Tar Heel Tylers faced off in preseason NBA play this week.
If you follow me on Twitter, I filled your timeline last night with #UNCBandnames, something I thought of over dinner. The game is simple: you take a Carolina name (athlete, coach, whatever), and combine it with a name from music. Some of my submissions from last night include 'Kendall Marshall Tucker Band,' and 'Darian Durant Duran.' Followers got in on the act, too, like with Michael Lananna's 'Dorrance and the Machine' and 'Squirrel Nut Zwikkers' from Evan Markfield, which was better than my original 'Squirrel Nut Zellers.' Got any ideas? Tweet them using the #UNCBandnames hashtag or post them in the comments below. Keep tweeting them, because people never get tired of these things. I can't stress that enough.
Today's music selection comes to us from Weezer's 1996 album, Pinkerton. It's 'The Good Life' on Hot FM.
