Weekend Watch: September 28-30
It's the weekend, everybody! You know, that thing you've been working for? Anyway, here we are, coming up on week five of college football.
Football hosts Idaho for a 3:30 kickoff with the 0-4 Vandals. It's Military Appreciation Day, and there are several events planned, including the Army Golden Knights delivering the game ball, a KC-135 Stratotanker fly-over, and a ceremony to honor retired Navy Rear Admiral Ferg Norton, who was a member of Carolina's 1960 College World Series team. Current and former military and emergency services personnel can buy tickets for $20, and fans can donate tickets as well. Military Appreciation Day t-shirts will be available in Kenan Stadium and can be purchased at Chapel Hill Sportswear. The Tar Heels will be wearing flag decals on their helmets, and equipment manager Jason Freeman tweeted this picture of the midfield logo.

Elsewhere in UNC sports, Cross Country is in South Bend today for the Notre Dame Invitational. Men's Soccer travels to Duke tonight for a 7 p.m. kickoff. That game can be seen live on the ACC Digital Network. Field Hockey and ACC Player of the Week Kelsey Kolojejchcik has a pair of home matches this weekend, with Wake Forest coming to town for a Saturday noon start, then it's VCU on Sunday at 1. Sunday's match will be the next in our Project 28 series. Also Sunday at 1, Volleyball hosts Georgia Tech and Women's Soccer hosts Miami. Saturday's Baseball scrimmage begins at noon and is open to the public. So before Saturday's football game, you can bounce across Ridge Road between field hockey and baseball.
Adam checked in with men's basketball's P.J. Hairston, who wants to take a step up in his level of play in his sophomore season.
Seven years after his Major League career began and ended with one pitch, former Tar Heel Adam Greenberg is getting a second chance at an official at-bat. He'll suit up for the Miami Marlins Tuesday when they take on the New York Mets.
Former Tar Heel Davis Love III captains the USA Ryder Cup team as they take on Europe at Medinah Country Club this weekend.
I think it's been enough time since Carolina played Wake Forest that you'll enjoy this 'Campanaro' song by Hayes Permar, based on the old Canyonero song from a 1998 Simpsons episode.
Here's a good (but long) oral history of Cheers from GQ. The entire series is streaming on Netflix, and it still holds up. Also on Netflix is Sherlock, the BBC's modern take on Sherlock Holmes about to begin its third season. My dad recommended it, and he was spot on. Each episode (there are three in a season) is about 90 minutes, so block out some time and give it a shot.
Looper opens this weekend, and it looks pretty good.
Did you see this stingray photobomb?
In looking for something to top off the Watch today, I thought back to the opening paragraph. So here's your jam of the day:
That's all for today. Enjoy the games this weekend and Adam will meet you here Monday for the Weekend Wrap.
