The final quarterfinal matchup of our What If Tar Heel Tournament sees the top-seeded 1996-97 What If Tar Heels facing off against the defending national champions, 8th-seeded 1982-83. Seniors Rasheed Wallace, Jerry Stackhouse and Jeff McInnis are joined by sophomores Vince Carter and Antawn Jamison. They face a senior James Worthy, Sam Perkins, Michael Jordan and Brad Daugherty. There's a lot of NBA talent in this one.

1996-97 What If Tar Heels

Coach: Dean Smith

Strengths: Athleticism, NBA starting 5, deep bench (Williams, Cota, Okulaja), PG rotation (McInnis and Cota)

Weaknesses: Other than Williams, no true three-point threat.

Will win the tournament if: Cota can accept reserve role and Carter/Okulaja give Shammond outside shooting help

Will lose if: They won't.

Captains: Stackhouse/Wallace

This team in one word: athletic

1982-83 What If Tar Heels

Coach: Dean Smith

Strengths: Talented and experienced front line

Weaknesses: PG (Braddock, Hale, Peterson?)

Will win the tournament if: Jordan, Worthy and Perkins maintain the magic from title run

Will lose if: Lack of talent at PG is too much to overcome

Captain: Worthy

This team in one word: Big Game (two words in this case)
